BOM Team Demonstrates Trophy-Winning Performance in the GT4 European Series 3rd Leg Races

Sponsored also by Supsan, Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport (BOM) brought home two trophies with its sterling performance in the 3rd leg of the GT4 European Series. The races on 28-29 June at Spa Francorchamps, an important track in the history of motor sports and celebrating its centenary this year, showed what can be accomplished by a team whose members work perfectly together. Standing out in the GT4 European Series with a string of successes from day one, Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport never quit despite its vehicles sustaining damage four times in the practice laps and the actual races. BOM co-pilots Berkay Besler and Gabriele Piana finished the second race in 3rd place on the podium with Pedro Ebrahim again claiming first place in the Rookie Cup at the end of the first race.

Raising the bar ever higher in each race with its outstanding performance in the first races of the season, Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport secured its place on the winners; podium despite a string of bad luck nobody could have predicted.

Berkay Besler and Gabriele Piana started the weekend with some unofficial practice runs but wrote off the BMW M4 GT4 number 12 they were driving. Fortunately, the technical crew stepped up and quickly got the reserve vehicle ready, allowing them to take part in the first free practice run.

Their car was badly damaged in a collision with Berkay’s rival in the first lap of the first race on Friday 28 June, leaving them out of the race. Competing in car number 11, co-pilots Yağız Gedik and Pedro Ebrahim started the race in 20th place but finished in 8th place thanks to some outstanding driving. This result was enough to see Pedro Ebrahim secure first place in the Rookie Cup in this race, just as he did in the first and second legs.

Yağız Gedik and Pedro Ebrahim started the second race on Saturday 29 June in 30th place after the pair were penalised and relegated 10 places. The pilots worked hard to turn this situation to their advantage, managing to cross the finish line in 6th place despite their car being all but written off following a collision with Yağız’s rival while taking the last bend on the last lap.

Despite a weekend of setbacks, the whole team pulled together enabling co-pilots Berkay Besler and Gabriele Piana to finish the second day in 3rd place after starting in 8th.

Representing Türkiye in the GT4 European Series for 7 years, BOM rose one rank to 6th place in the teams category as a result of these efforts.

The 4th Leg of the GT4 European Series will take place at the Hockenheim Track in Germany over 20-21 July. The races will be broadcast live on S Sport and Sport+.
