Supsan, the largest valve manufacturer in Türkiye, contributes to the circular economy and sustainability by re-purposing 6 tons of steel annually while expanding its product portfolio with new projects. In the machine revision process, the company gives a second life to machines that have reached their economic life rather than sourcing the required equipment from abroad.
A Borusan Group company, Supsan has created a difference with its exemplary project that gives a second life to machines contributing to the circular economy as a part of its sustainability efforts in climate, people and innovation perspectives. By renewing the machines that reached their economic life and using them in the production line, the company saved 6 tons of steel, 1.5 megawatt-hours of energy, and prevented the emission of 1.3 tons of greenhouse gases. Collaborating with start-ups during the process, the company has also contributed to the entrepreneurial ecosystem and supported the development of domestic component and technology producers.
Reducing its dependence to external sources in machinery investment
Supsan General Manager Atınç Ocak stated Supsan’s commitment to the sustainability of all operations and emphasized that they are reviewing all their business processes within the framework of their sustainability strategy. Ocak continued as follows: “Our goal is to contribute to the circular economy and eliminate dependence on external sources for new machine investments by recycling old machines and providing them with a renewed economic life. In this regard, we dismantled old machine bodies into their components and gave them a new life by adapting new generation hydraulic, mechanical, and electronic systems. We are reclaiming 6 tons of steel body annually with 3 machine revisions.”
Supporting domestic production
Atınç Ocak highlighted that the machinery to be used in production lines are not domestically manufactured and expressed their commitment to support the Turkish entrepreneurial ecosystem and domestic production. Ocak continued as follows: “In industrial production, we believe that domestic production, rather than machinery import, will contribute to reducing current deficit in the economy. For this purpose, in addition to our core business of valve production, we have formed a team of experts on electrical, electronic and mechanic systems as part of this project. We received support from Turkish entrepreneurs. As a result of technical revisions, we took the machinery that completed its economic life and updated them according to today’s technology technically and in terms of HSE and environmental impact. We met machinery needs without depending on external sources. Our cost-saving project contributes to the development of sustainability culture in our company, and elevates our technologies to meet the current needs.”
