Türkiye’s largest manufacturer of engine valves, Supsan has patented the turbo technologies it developed with the EPO (European Patent Office). The company has revised the design of its turbo bearings and boosted their performance and is fast on track to becoming Türkiye’s first OEM turbo supplier.
One of the Borusan Group companies, Supsan has patented its “One-Piece Turbo Bearing” and “Turbo Bearing System” inventions with the EPO. These inventions make it possible to switch from multi-part to single-part structures in turbo bearing technology and provide savings by reduce production costs. They also regulate the flow of oil inside the turbo cartridge and improve the turbo’s performance and lifespan by reducing losses in the bearing area when the turbo is working.
Great success in turbo technology achieved quickly
Stating that the prototypes using Supsan turbo technologies performed much better than existing turbo bearing designs during testing, Supsan General Manager Atınç Ocak said they had come a long way in a short time in turbo technology with their patented brand new inventions. Speaking about the R&D studies they have been conducting on turbo technology since January 2016, he continued:
“Under the Supsan brand, not only are we the country’s leader in valves, we also manufacture and sell different automotive parts. We have been working for years now as the dependable business partner of the world’s leading motor vehicle manufacturers. Our turbo adventure began in 2014 offering products to the national spare part parts market and continued in 2016 in line with our need to possess turbo technology know-how and evolve from manufacturer to developer. We have 3 completed and 2 ongoing projects as part of this. We established an engine testing centre and can now test engines up to 150 kW and the turbos for them while on the engines. We made effective use of our infrastructure when commissioning new turbo references for the spare parts market and during our turbo R&D activities. We published various papers as part of our R&D studies and made presentations at key conferences in Europe and the United States”.
Close to being Türkiye’s first OEM turbo supplier
Stating that their priority was to increase the variety of products and their availability in order to meet national demands, Ocak said: “Our company is already well respected in the international arena and we are going to strengthen its position here with our registered patents and R&D studies. We have 2 OEM projects near completion concerning turbo supply which will bring us closer to being Türkiye’s first OEM turbo supplier. We have also applied to patent our e-Turbo as part of our turbo studies, which are continuing without let-up”.
