Supsan Receives Zero-Waste Certification

Türkiye’s largest manufacturer of engine valves, Supsan has been awarded the Zero Waste Certificate for its Zero-Waste Management System. The company gives its employees training on zero waste while its agenda focuses on giving new functions to waste material by recycling it, including such activities as reusing wastewater and reducing carbon emissions.

One of the Borusan Group companies, Supsan completed its Zero-Waste Management System in January 2023 , which it began working on in 2022 in accordance with the Zero-Waste Regulation and became Zero-Waste certified. The company has implemented its zero-waste management system in its offices and compounds, aiming to reduce its waste each year and increase both recycling and upcycling.

Huge Increase in Recycling

Explaining that they had re-evaluated Supsan’s waste management strategy and were intending to make significant reductions in waste every year in the coming period, Supsan General Manager Atınç Ocak said: “We are continuing our sustainability efforts committed to our climate, people and innovation strategy. To this end, we are using recycling and upcycling to utilise the waste produced by our activities. We are reducing our office waste to zero and sending it off to be recycled as part of our zero-waste practices”.

Stating that they were focusing on their office blocks and employees in the first stage of Zero-Waste Management, Ocak continued: “Our Environmental Management Adviser gave our employees very comprehensive training. We set up separate waste areas for different materials such as paper, plastic, glass and metal. We stopped purchasing disposable plastic items inside Supsan. And with the awareness we generated, we are continuing to reduce paper usage more and more. We are also going to continue our work on reducing water use in the coming period. We set up a rainwater collection system in 2023 and we are going to use the collected rainwater in different areas. We also have projects aimed at using the wastewater produced by the various water treatment systems in our factory in different processes at the plant.

Noting that Supsan was continuing work on reducing its carbon footprint, Ocak said: “We have new projects planned that will help increase efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint while saving energy. We are also increasing our contribution to the circular economy by refurbishing our machinery at our technology centre during the year”.
