Türkiye’s largest manufacturer of engine valves, Supsan has implemented a rainwater collection system and treatment wastewater reclamation project after its evaporator treatment system in line with its sustainability strategies. We made use of the materials on site and reused them for the systems while Supsan employees set up the collection system with a total capacity of 16 tonnes of rainwater. Using both systems, Supsan achieved water savings of 10% in 6 months.
One of the Borusan Group companies, Supsan has implemented a rainwater collection system and treatment wastewater reclamation project after its evaporator treatment system at its production plant, which has the capacity to make 9 million parts, in line with its sustainability strategy focusing on the climate, people and innovation.
By integrating the unused containers (IBC) on-site to store the rainwater, the company can store 16 tonnes of rainwater and intends to increase the system’s capacity to 26 tonnes by the end of the year. Supsan also uses this project to reclaim the wastewater from the treatment devices which create as much wastewater as the water consumed at the plant and transfers it to social water consumption areas.
Rainwater and treatment wastewater deliver savings
Supsan General Manager Atınç Ocak said Supsan continues to carry out pioneering work in the industry in terms of sustainability. Explaining his views on the project, Ocak said this:
“We achieved 10% water savings from April to October with the rainwater collection and treatment wastewater reclamation project we launched during the year”. We set up the rainwater collection system using our own teams and used materials available on-site rather than repurchase the materials needed to build the system. We use the water we bring to our plant with the rainwater collection system and treatment wastewater reclamation project in our social areas. We are pleased to have implemented a project that sets an example to our industry in the field of sustainability on this journey we embarked on saying “Transformation begins with us”.
